Wanna know your thoughts...

....on this article. I, for one, am naturally very thin and was actually teased about it as a child. After having my children I filled out and carry any weight I gain in my butt! I'm proud of it and the day I grew hips and filled out was a happy day for me. If I don't work out or eat right I don't feel good about myself, if I do then I focus less on what size I am and feel good because I'm healthy. I would rather be healthy on the inside and be a bigger jean size than be scary skinny because I'm not eating right or working out. Being skinny and flabby doesn't feel good to me. Being fuller and maybe more muscular and toned makes me feel great. So I think we should focus less on size and more on what you are doing to make you the size you are. Be your natural you, your healthy you and whatever size that is, so be it! You will probably feel amazing if you know you are doing what you can to take care of your might body and soul!

We all know that the internet has taken over. It's become the number one way we communicate and is causing us to communicate in ways we never would have dreamt of a mere 5 years ago. In so many ways these changes are amazing and exciting. I, being someone who loves the idea of a time without cellphones, internet, television, etc. am for the most part scared by the promise that this is taking over our lives. The funny thing is, this message is being written and read on a computer, and I pay my bills by performing on television. So modern technology undoubtedly has it's perks.

I could write a hundred thousand word essay on the antithesis of that, and why it drives me crazy. Some ideas are; what it exposes our children to, us becoming an increasingly less social society while we becoming more social through a screen, less outdoor play, the need for instant gratification, the downfall of the english language and on and on and on I could (but won't) go.

This leads me to the reason for writing this scattered note. The US Postal service is going down down down baby down. It scares me because I love getting mail. I hate getting bills, but I love getting mail. It's one of the things thing that I believe simply cannot ever be replaced by the internet. E-cards just don't have the same feeling. You can't touch them, hold them, keep them forever... knowing that someone put the time and love into buying (or making), hand writing and mailing something for you. It didn't take a few minutes through a company that fills in the spaces for you and one click and it's off. It's the unexpected nice surprise that is mixed into your expected bills and junk mail. The birthday or Christmas card you didn't expect. It's the check from your grandma, the magazine you subscribe to, fan mail you sent, letter from your loved one in Iraq, the school photo of your niece, the confetti in the holiday card, the postcard from the Philippines, the smudge marks on the paper, the scent of your loved one, the S.W.A.K (sealed with a kiss) from your best friend.

When I read this article today it made me want to come on here and beg you all to try to send holiday cards this year. Even go buy an old typewriter, some cool paper and have fun with sending vintage-looking notes. Maybe keep an address book with the people you loves' mailing information in it and once in a blue moon, send them a card. Help the post office stay alive for as long as we can. It's up to us to continue on supporting something that our families before us relied on so much, before a time of status updates.

Who knows, you might miss it when it's finally gone.

And I would've mailed this if I knew each and every one of you addresses.

I'm sorry but I think this is a little over the top. There is absolutely no proof that co-sleeping is a cause of SIDS. As most of you know, I have two children and with one we went the co-sleeping route and one we didn't. It seems to me that this ad isn't taking many of the important steps in educating people.

***I'm not a professional, this is only MY OWN OPINION, and you can take it or leave it but please make your own choice.***

1. it's been found that the infant mortality rate goes soaring up if someone is a smoker and sleeps beside their baby.
2. if someone has been heavily drinking or is under the influence of drugs this is another reason to put your baby in their own crib. (although if you are doing either of those things and you have a newborn, you have much bigger issues).
3. Don't let your baby sleep in your bed if you have a waterbed or if you are planning on sleeping with your blankets up around your neck... not safe.
4. your baby should not sleep in the middle of you and your partner, or on the edge of the bed so they can fall off.
5. Use your common sense.

Now; let's consider this. In many many countries around the world ( North America excluded), women sleep with their children. They believe it is important in mother-child bonding, and for the infant to feel love and closeness so early in life. I once heard of someone who went to Africa and an African woman said to her "is it true that in America you keep your babies in a jail?" referring to a crib. Now, I'm not saying we do, cause clearly we all know that's a bit severe and not the case. But it is a bit strange that so early in life we put our infants in another room, far from the mother, after spending so long attached in the womb. A gradual transition would be ideal.

Another interesting fact I've read over the past few years is that SIDS rates are higher in New Zealand, Ireland, England and America than anywhere else. Why do we think that is?

Some theories are that a chemical used in fire-retardants cause toxic gases to leak from mattresses and result in SIDS. These chemicals don't show up in autopsies and also are less likely to be deadly when a baby is sleeping on their back, with their nose and mouth breathing in more fresh air. This also could explain why the Back-to-Sleep campaign has cut SIDS more than 50%.

How about the fact that babies are maybe just as at risk if they are sleeping alone and their parents can't hear them if they are distressed? Do we know it's better to have our infant down the hallway, alone at maybe several weeks old? We have double the infant death rate than many countries who do co-sleep with their infants.

Overheating is another theory that has been related to SIDS.

Who really knows. There are dozens of theories out there and we don't really know that cause of this terrifying and tragic syndrome that every new parent fears. My point is; this ad seemed to be very vague and fear-instilling. It may be discouraging something that has been proven to be completely healthy and fine in millions of homes. Or maybe there is a slight increase but do we know it's not due to poor choices on these parent's parts? Smoking and cuddling a baby, sleeping with blankets up high or under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

Either way and whatever the case is, I just found it to be a startling advertisement, and I know that was the point but was it right to make such a claim on something that is so inconclusive?

The best damn lasagna you'll ever have.

I’m pretty proud of myself for this one. I’ve changed the recipe a bit but feel free to do as you wish. My step dad and his family came to Canada straight from Italy (northern Italy) and growing up I would beg her to send us her lasagna (we lived in Vancouver) from Mackenzie (a place in Canada, very cold). She couldn’t, but when she would come she would bring some and we would devour it. I’ve never had more amazing lasagna in my life. This isn’t her recipe, but I have to say it comes pretty close to the real thing and it’s not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Doing the layers is actually kind of… dare I say it? Fun. Oh and you’ll see in my pic I used fresh mozzarella on the top, which I would use the sliced next time.

Ingredients
1 lb sweet Italian sausage (I actually didn’t add this)
3/4 pound lean ground beef (I used lean ground turkey)
1/2 cup minced onion
2 cloves garlic, crushed (The trader joes ones that are frozen really help)
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 (6.5 ounce) cans canned tomato sauce (I used the TJ’s Rustico Pomodoro sauce)
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds (I didn’t have these in my pantry so I didn’t use them)
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (I used dried and it worked great)
12 lasagna noodles (For this I used the TJ’s no-boil lasagna noodles, made it much easier)
16 ounces ricotta cheese
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 pound mozzarella cheese, sliced (Shredded works too)
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Directions
In a Dutch oven, (or for me a pot with a good lid) cook sausage, ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until well browned or cooked. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Season with sugar, basil, fennel seeds(if you have them), Italian seasoning, 1 tablespoon salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons parsley. Simmer, covered, for about 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally. (I forgot to stir and it wasn’t a problem, they simmered nicely!)
***If using normal lasagna noodles***Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling water for 8 to 10 minutes. Drain noodles, and rinse with cold water.
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese with egg, remaining parsley, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C)…
To assemble, spread 1 1/2 cups of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange 6 noodles lengthwise over meat sauce. Spread with one half of the ricotta cheese mixture. Top with a third of mozzarella cheese slices. Spoon 1 1/2 cups meat sauce over mozzarella, and sprinkle with 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese. *Repeat layers, and top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover with foil: to prevent sticking, either spray foil with cooking spray, or make sure the foil does not touch the cheese.
Bake in preheated oven for *25 minutes. Remove foil, and bake an additional *25 minutes. Cool for *15 minutes before serving.

Breath in life.

I can handle problems when they needs to be handled. But there is always one thing that breaks me down each and every time. Suffering. I cannot process suffering. And hearing that a child is suffering is the worst thing I can possibly imagine. It kills me, it rips and tears me apart and I wish I could fix it. There is nothing I can do, and knowing that suffering is happening collapses my heart and soul. Life is so precious. We take for granted the simple things we take pleasure in. The beauty in simplicity. The ability to wake up in the morning and look a loved one in the eye. Simpler yet, the ability to wake up in the morning.
We are so quick to complain. We need to all take half a second each day to be grateful. To feel how lucky we are that we are not suffering and that we are blessed enough to be able to complain about a hole in our sock, or our work schedule or the barista doing our coffee wrong. Live and let live. Enjoy each breath. Relish in each moment. Do one thing each day to put a smile on even one person's face.
I'm heartbroken today. Not because my own child is suffering but because some else's is. It breaks my heart looking at my own babies faces knowing how lucky I am and how much we take for granted every day. I can't heal the broken, but I can help remind each and every one of you to take in every moment and be grateful. Ask yourself, is your problem is really a problem? And find joy in the small things.

I got so much feedback on my "God did not create the universe" and would like to take a moment to let you all to know that when I am posting I am only sharing. When I choose to stay unbiased it's simply because I really don't want to hear that I am right or wrong from either side, especially about such a heated topic. I do have my beliefs (and although they are strong) I post blogs like that to see everyone else's take. So please, feel free to voice your opinion freely (in fact I love it when you do), but notice that I am not taking my stand in cases like these.

So please don't try to convert me assuming I'm an atheist, or educate me on religion assuming I don't know anything about it. I love science, yes. I post scientific articles from time to time. But let's not let blood boil.

I love you all and it's nice to see some passion in this world. Thank you for reading my ramblings and random thoughts.

Tao Porchon- Lynch...

So I thank you all for sticking with me and my sporadic posting. I'm gonna have a bit more time on my hands so have a feeling this'll become more regular...

Today I wanted to post about Tao Porchon-Lynch, 92 years old. Read the link I've attached and you'll see why I felt the need. This isn't about what she's doing (although it's amazing), but just the fact that she's not taken the path we all think we will take at 92. I'm going to go right ahead and say 'packing it in', because by that age so many do just that. We are told what our bodies are capable of and for how long, and give in to our 'limits' without pushing through them.

Anyway this has really made me look at growing older differently, and inspired me to take care of myself. Hopefully it'll do the same for you too :) I wish i could do what she does and I'm 25! Ha

Alright the next post won't be as heavy I PROMISE!!! Here goes:

I read an article with an interview with Blake Lively, and I have to say I've gained some respect for the girl. I really admire her way of being an actor and doing what she needs to do but generally staying out of the limelight. Doing so, she is being taken seriously and it looks like she may have a great career ahead of her. Something common that happens here in hollywood to young girls is this; they get a small taste of fame or success and their focus seems to be less of their art and more about their red carpet status. We've all seen it and we all know who falls victim. Blake said something I've always thought; There are actors and their are celebrities.

The problems lies here; when your career gains some momentum you can choose to have a publicist and pay somewhere in the ballpark of $3,000 a month (many pay a lot more, some a little less), and it is a promise to more fame and a better career (or so you're told). These people get you on the list for the best parties, red carpets galore, interviews and even push you for nominations at various award shows. All that you, the public, sees is pushed in your face and you are told who is "hot" and going to be a star because everyone is doing someone a favor and getting paid. The sad thing is that so little focus is on talent these days, and these young stars don't realize that sometimes more press isn't always a good thing. Sometimes it makes me feel so sick to be a part of something where most of the time, image is more focused on than talent. Also these young girls don't see how these people aren't always out for their best interests, and a lot of the time these young Hollywood actors are looked at as socialites more than thespians. They spend so much time looking good for the camera that the reason they got there in the first place becomes secondary.

I'm just venting because it's something that I see around me every day. It's weird to watch it happen. It is so easy to get sucked in to it all, but at the end of the day I want to be known for my ability to create life from words. Not for how I look or for a popularity contest. Whenever I wonder if I should be getting myself out there more? I think this: who do I admire? Do they sell themselves out? All of the "greats" say their words and go home. A lot of them need publicists but they are on a level that demands it, it's not being used to get them into a movie premiere or a frivolous party. That being said, I enjoy the occasional fun time with my peers like anyone else, but you start to realize it's work. And you realize you are selling a product; yourself. Also, there are certain things that even some of my favorite movie stars do because a bit of it IS part of the job. I just wish that maybe there wasn't that fine line of celebrity and someone who is taken seriously as an actor. The world loves celebrity and tries to turn every one of their beloved actors into one.

So I'm sure just like any other post, I'll have people who might find fault in what I've written. All I'm doing is shedding light on something I see every day. And before you ask, no I don't have a publicist and never have...

Okay, so these are the things that make my blood boil. (but first...)
I go home and see the lack of billboards in my face (everywhere I turn) and it's a huge sense of relief. That being said, regardless of billboards or not we are in a sick society that has pushed a warped female physic into our minds. We all know exactly how woman are "suppose" to look. Here's a good test: go to google and type in "perfect woman's body" and see what comes up.

When I was a little girl I had an idea of what I was going to look like when I grew up and the more I grew up the more I was disappointed and put pressure on myself. Why? TV, internet, magazines, etc. "We" never feel it's enough. That we're enough.

Here is a picture of what a desirable woman's body used to be:

Cellulite; check. Ass; check. Love handles; check and then some. When did that become disgusting? Why is it? Woman are starting to look more and more like men, the way woman think they need to be perfectly toned and slim. The ones who don't are looking plastic. It just saddens me because I don't know how, for our daughters, we can stop this trend. How do you not have your child become affected by what society has become and what these messages are sending to young women. There have always been pressures but I truly feel we are reaching an ultimate low as a society and letting it happen. Between plastic surgery and the media world we live in; I'm terrified. There is only so much confidence you can instill into a child before you need to let them go off into the world.

Anyway, sorry so preachy tonight I just see this so much where I work and live. I see girls in leotards all day long and I see how everyone single one is affected. Trying to keep up. Simply because this is our world. Why are we never good enough? If we all start to choose to be, than maybe we will. Be healthy, live healthy, and you are sexy, beautiful and the best you that you can be. Here's your second piece of homework: google renaissance nude, 1950s women, victorian nude, your favorite artist and see what you find. Find what you see when you look into the mirror, print it, put it on your mirror, and see the beauty.

Okay, so it's become clear that my little sister is a fashion savant. I, am clearly not (to anyone who knows me, I am very hit or miss). But it's the thought that counts, right? Maybe not.

Boufi was her nickname as a kid cause her hair was so blonde it was see-through and it was pouffy. Someone called her Boufi and it stuck for life. Taylor (her real name) is 3 1/2 yrs younger than me and works as Canada's fashion merchandiser for Levi's, and 4 other huge lines.

Basically, she reps the lines and it's her job to sell the clothes to stores across Canada. A job people go to school for and even still have to work for years to get that high up. She is so good at what she does that she is one of the most sought after young talents in her field. And she is JUST 22. It has already taken her around Europe, the US and Canada, and she more than tripled Levi's sales for the quarter she worked for them. I'm such a proud big sis lol!

I'm kinda into cooking because it's actually really... dare I say it... fun. Even if you burn boiling water, you can learn how. This is coming from a girl who's specialty was macaroni and cheese, up until 5 years ago. Find a recipe, follow exactly what it says, and every time it will get easier ( and tastier). Practice makes perfect :)

So here is a site I love for healthy AMAZING ideas, recipes and tips. I get their magazine sent to my house every month, find something in it that looks like it would be a $20 dish in a restaurant, ace making it at home and than serve it to my man. I do NOT consider that cheating, btw ;)

Also, I want to remind everyone that we are now on Tuesdays at 9pm (after pretty little liars) which is AMAZING. Especially if you are like me and can't keep your eyes open late enough to watch the show at 10pm (our old time slot). So now we are back at 9pm like we were first season, but on Tuesdays!

Homemade frozen yogurt

Recipe:
Mix 2 cups lowfat organic vanilla yogurt, 1/2 cup whole milk or sub for lowfat, 1/4 cup sugar mix for 2 min.
add 12 oz bag pureed strawberries, mix for 40 seconds
& follow ur ice-cream maker instructions :)

A week and counting...

Kind of exciting. Really exciting, actually. We air the second season starting next Monday!! I'm really looking forward to hearing what you guys all think. This is gonna have a different feel and, in my opinion, this season is gonna be even better than last. Not to mention the fact that we all have a better idea of gymnastics now and what it really might feel like the be an elite gymnast. Also, I just read episode 8 and couldn't believe what happens, funny how the writers are constantly surprising us. They must love to watch our reactions after we read these scripts.

Oh and here's our new poster... slightly different.

Sam Sarpong. He's been a friend and big brother to me since I worked with him on a pilot for Fox when I was 17.
LA can be a lonely city, and moving out here with no friends and family was ROUGH!
Thank god for Sam being family to me when I had none; and when I came THIS close to getting my dream role after 5 callbacks and didn't get the part, he encouraged me to keep my head up (and this happened much more than a handful of times).
Sam always believed in me.

So here we are, 8 years later. Now he has done tons of films and tv (with a great building music career) and has a show coming out about his life, on BET. He has filmed his going ons in Hollywood for over 10 years and is now bringing it all together in show format. Now every one can see what it really takes to make it in Hollywood. The ups and downs.

Subsequently, he has aired a clip of an episode I'm in with him. It's amazing because in the clip are clips of me when I was 17. Check out the show when it airs (gotta check the date on that) and you will see his amazing journey and even us at auditions together (or actually him taking me to auditions and calming me down haha)

Hiatus makes me think.

It's funny how I am an actor when there are so many things out there that fascinate me beyond belief.
Some things I feel really passionate about are, astronomy, psychology and archaeology. I am a stalker of yahoo news (if you haven't noticed) and other up-to-date sites for new information about these things that I am so far away from yet feel so close to.

Another thing I am really into is finding new causes and figuring out ways I can help contribute. Being in the industry I'm in, and being able to reach people around the world, I am searching now more than ever. So I am more actively promoting www.one.org and want you to take a minute to check it out and find a cause on their site you feel u want to help. You don't have to do much, but even checking it out and signing up helps a bit. We spend so much time reading gossip mags and sites and if we take 10 minutes out of that to do something like this, we would make a change.

After this blog I am going to post something a bit more upbeat cause I know I've been Debbie Downer lately. I guess on my hiatus I get inspired to look outside of this bubble.

Although it seems there are at least a few of you who feel what I'm saying, and that makes it worth it to me. So there.

I guess what's been stopping me from doing this project lately is the simple fact that I am overwhelmed by the magnitude of what I am taking on. All I want to do is contribute to the movement. The embrace yourself movement.

For decades we have listened to our mothers. We've been raised to love ourselves and yet we all emulate what we saw. Insecurities in the women who raised us or the need to keep up appearance. Even watching movie stars; looking flawless behind their vaseline-lensed cameras with flattering lighting and impeccable makeup. We've perused through magazines and the unattainable images they portray. We've been heartbroken, and rejected for a woman that represents something we're not. We as a whole put this incredible image of a woman on a pedestal held so high that no-one can touch it. We are all flawed. And even the few that seem unflawed are, themselves, flawed too.

The pressure to keep up. To keep up with what society tells us is perfect, is causing us to enter a time when women are no longer women, but plastic shells of what women used to be. Our children are going to grow up in a time when not having had plastic surgery is the rarity. When everyone starts to look the same because they are all trying to look special. Although the only thing that is moving us forward towards more plastic surgery is more technology. There has always been something that women have done to "enhance" their looks. Their outer shell. If we spent so much time enhancing our inner shell, we would be a much better society.

Still, things will not change and nor do I expect them to. Men and women are sexually fueled by what they see on the outside (initially, at least) and this helps the obsession. Of course, it's not just getting the life partner we want it is also getting the job we want and life we want. All of this seems to be hinged somehow on being physically attractive. All I hope is that I can encourage young women and men to work towards being the best that they can be. Many try to look like their favorite model, singer or movie star and in the process lose themselves and their true beauty. We are all flawed, we all have our self-esteem issues and when we can learn to love who we are and feel good about ourselves we will find a sense of self. The sad thing is that for many, this doesn't come until later in life. If somehow self love and acceptance can come at a younger age the focus will be on more important things, teens will grow up to be more successful happier adults, and suicide rates will come down.

If only the rest of the world would take action and stop putting images of unattainable males and females into the world and maybe more realistic instead.

So I'll continue on thinking of things big or small, to do my part in finding beauty in the unlit, untouched bodies of the world...

So I have been bothered by the fact that I haven't done a blog since October. I'm going to be better about that now, and appreciate you all checking back for updates even when I'm gone for months. Let's start new and to start of my blogging again I'm just going to post a few of my favorite things... So here you go:

1. www.shoedazzle.com - Awesome if you have a shoe fetish (like most women do) but your bank account doesn't appreciate your fetish as much as you do. You get a new pair of shoes every month and a stylist makes monthly suggestions for you to choose from! All for about $39 a month! Yup guilty pleasure right here...

2. http://www.eatingwell.com/ - I love this magazine and their website. It inspires and encourages me to eat healthy and cook healthy. Also very informative about what to buy and what's going into the food we are eating, and how to eat to lose weight or feel your best!

3. http://www.sourcenaturals.com/products/GP1345/ - This stuff has gotten me through colds in a day. I can't recommend it enough. Take it at the beginning of your cold and you will be thanking me. Also take less capsules daily as a homeopathic health maintenance for your immune system. They even make it for kids!

4. http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/p90x.do?code=P90XDOTCOM - Okay, you wanna get into shape.. you asked for it. This is a 12 DVD workout plan that will WHIP you into shape in 12 weeks. Based on muscle confusion, this has a different type of workout all the time so you don't plateau but instead keep getting more cut and closer to your goal faster! And you don't get BORED!!!

5. http://www.garnier.com/fructis/ - By FAR the most underrated shampoo and conditioner. This stuff is huge in other countries, but North America is very obsessed with label and price. "If it's more expensive it must work better" not true. I've been given every expensive brand under the sun and why I love this stuff is it's under $5 a bottle and they have so many different products. Dry hair, hard to grow long hair, limp hair, colored hair... you name it. It is really good stuff and why spend $50 on a bottle when it's all made in the same factory?

6. http://www.doctoroz.com/ - I love watching this show and learning. Simple as that. He's kinda cool and I learn a lot about health and good tips, etc.

7. http://zara.com This is my favorite store to shop. So I couldn't leave it out. They have Womens, Mens and Kids. LOVE their stuff. I've also heard that they might be doing online shopping soon... hmmm.

8. http://www.avaaz.org/ and http://one.org/us/ - These are two sites that are amazing in helping people and causes around the world. If you feel helpless and don't know how to contribute all you have to do is signup and/or sign a petition for a cause and you will get sent different emails with options to do your part. Signing a petition is a good place to start and a great way to do your part. There are options to donate as well, or buy their cool apparel.

9. http://www.nouvellesvagues.com/ - I love their sound and the covers they do. Beautiful, and takes me to a place. I listen to these guys on my way to work.

10. http://paulyboy.tumblr.com/ - My new favorite artist. His voice is classic yet so unique, and his music really is beautiful. I listen to him on my way to work too, and think he's going to blow up once everyone hears what he has to offer.

Photo project update

I just wanted to do a quick update about my photo project... since I am back at work on MIOBI I am putting it on hold for now. I want to make sure I can give this the time and love it deserves and right now I can't. This is still something I feel very passionate about and your photos have inspired me and moved me. So please bear with me while I focus on the show and know that I am planning on diving back into this around Feb.

In the meantime I will be trying to update my blog as much as possible ;)

So I commented on your comments (which were both touching and overall so awesome to read) and as I mentioned, the videos I posted really got me thinking today and sparked some ideas. I can't really get into them all yet because I am still working out the details... but basically I am going to start rolling the ball by posting two pictures of myself taken in the last 2 months. They are both me with NO makeup, NO retouching and NO fancy lighting. Just me.

I have blemishes. I have scars. I have freckles. They make me, me.

And to begin this I ask that if you feel so inspired, as I do, send me a photo of you the same way. Beautiful in your flaws, hiding nothing, just you. I will also post more photos sans makeup, as I know these are small so it's hard to see the full effect of what I'm trying to do.
The first 50 photos I receive will be part of my small project.

Okay, so first off all THANK YOU for all the amazing responses to my last blog. I was so happy to get them and can't wait to do more research on the suggestions. You guys have apparently been to some amaaaazing places (that I've never even come close to visiting) and I can't wait to visit one. I will let you know where I end up:)

So on a more serious note.. I came across a suggestion on my youtube account. It is a video on photoshopping, a subject many people feel very passionate about. As an actress, I would be lying if I said that I've never been photoshopped. My guy is a photographer and I've seen him work magic to some of the actors and musicians he's shot. About 99.9999% of the photos of models and actresses you see in magazines are photoshopped, and what this is doing to young women is pretty serious.
When I was 14 I weighed 95 lbs and still felt like I was too curvy (something we aren't told as young women, is that when we start to take on a womanly shape it is simply that. Not excess weight. So I looked down and saw hips and freaked out). I like many teen girls had pictures of my favorite actresses and models on my wall and wanted to be as beautiful as them. I had no idea that even they don't really look like that.
So this video brings up a very unique and interesting idea and I thought I'd re-post to see what all of your thoughts were on the matter. Maybe it's not the answer but it at least kind of educates people on the matter.

I am also posting another favorite (I called it video two, below) that I'm sure a lot of you have seen. It takes you from beginning to end of a photoshopped image.

Okay, so maybe it's my brain wandering again and fantasizing about a tropical vacation that drove me to do this.. but I am going to probably run out of time this hiatus (break from shooting) to actually take another vacation. Either way, I will be doing a much needed trip between now and March. I'm thinking sand, tropical fish, clear blue/green water and sun. Somewhere I can have a hut and a massage and a drink and maybe even a bit of seclusion. Or forget all of that and let's just say anywhere beautiful and exotic and relaxing.
Not sure what part of the world I'm thinking of here... I just have a make-believe place in my head and wish I had the "I dream of Genie" syndrome to get there really fast.

So.
Any ideas? Links to places or pictures? Where have you been or what have you heard of that sounds spiritual, dreamlike and relaxing? Secret spots, even?

Let's get some posts going on here. This should be fun. I'm gonna see what I can find too:)

Pauly Boy

So...
my next blog on the artistic side of things is about a musician called Pauly Boy.

The first time I heard him play was live in Hollywood. "Till we meet again" made me cry; and after hearing it was about a couple in a terrible car accident, I feel just as touched every time I hear it. That doesn't take away from every single song of his, all of which have a haunting quality to them. He is a unique hybrid of, (and I hate comparing anyone to anyone) Jeff Buckley, NIck Drake, Elvis in his good looks, The Beatles for their song writing, and Johnny Cash when he hits those smooth low notes. There are so many processed, over synthesized musicians out now; and when I find someone who moves me like this, I feel like it's worth taking note and spreading the word. Oh and this is recorded in a home studio, word is; he is recording in Nashville soon. I'm not joking either.

I feel like the worst blogger in the history of bloggers!! All these social networking sites are more like anti-social networking sites. So enough blabbering on my part. We wrapped the first 10 episodes of the show, and our ratings and reviews have been great. It's crazy to see fan-base be born and grow, it's really so cool to see people enjoying what you've worked hard at.

So here's an artist for you guys. His name is CHASE. Started out as a graffiti artist and is now world famous. Chase has been published in countless books and magazines, hired by Nike, Western Union and way too many other ones for me to even list. There is probably not a country in the world that hasn't been graced with his murals. Chase's artwork displays strong messages that aim toward light and life and one of his most famous quotes "remember who you are". I am lucky to call him a dear friend, and his big personality is just as touching as his larger than life art. I can't even begin to explain so just check it out on his site.

Disney/ABC Upfront presentation!

Last night we went to a party and presentation of all ABC's new shows, to promote for international distribution. Around 600 people showed up from around the world and they showed a clip of our show to them before bringing us on stage. Here are some pictures of the party after and us just before, as well!

Also check out this months issue of "M Magazine", we are featured on their 'it list'. Such exciting changes, and we're still sooooo excited for everyone to see it all : )

We've been shooting Make it or Break it (our new, and official title!) and now are on episode 3. It's going very well and I can't WAIT to see what you all think about the show; it's so different from anything else on tv right now.

Bob's Backyard

So in doing all of this conditioning, etc for Perfect 10, my gymnastics trainer Carolyn decided to spice it up for me so I wouldn't get bored. We went to a place called 'Bob's Backyard'. And it's literally stunt legend Bob Yerkes’ backyard. This guy is in his 70's and has been around since Elvis was doing stunts. He has worked with everyone on everything (including Circus with the Stars) and decided to turn his backyard into a place for stunt wannabes from around the world to come and train (without any trainers). There are old trailers everywhere and people living in them. Crazy.

So, here are some pics and you can see that people started to file in and train. Pros and beginners.

Here is the craziest; you know when you see someone in a movie go flying through the air after an explosion or something? Ever wonder how they do it? Nitro.

All they do is run up to a small board/platform and then it sends them flying through the air. It's apparently the most dangerous thing in the stunt world. I can imagine why.

Here we go...

So here I am starting my first blog...

I love writing, always have. So I figured this would be the best way for me to keep in touch with the world and satisfy my craving to write.

So...my life, my life... I'm entering a new chapter that I'm very excited and naturally a little nervous about. The pilot I filmed in December has been picked up for series! ABC Family has given us a 10 episode order, and we (meaning the cast and I) are all soooo excited to get going!!! The picture is the three other leads and me, by the way.

Now here comes the tricky part. I'm in 5 day a week training to build muscle mass (I'm naturally slight in frame and need to be more muscly like a gymnast), for 3 of those days I'm training twice a day. After going to a nutritionist I've been put on a 110g of protein/day "diet" and that includes 2 shakes a day; one whey the other egg-white based!

Whew! Writing it down makes me realize how much all that is! It's amazing the difference I've seen in 3 weeks.. now we have about 6 more to go till we start filming. Crrraaaazzzzyyy!!!

I have to say the thing I'm probably most excited about in all of this is how fresh this show is. Here you have a plethora of shows showcasing girls who are shockingly thin. Ours is showing young girls that healthy young women who take care of themselves and kick a$$ in the gym, are beautiful! Our cast is stunning and athletic. All of the four girl leads take care of ourselves and all four of us are different shapes and sizes.

I can't tell you how refreshing this is to me... and I'm sure it will be to thousands of other people. I'm so sick of the pressures young woman (and hey, even men) feel to be small or look a certain way. Let's motivate our youth to take care of themselves and give them healthy role models. And listen, I'm not sitting here preaching from my keyboard. Teen years are teen years and that comes with drama. It's just nice to know that the world is about to see a show on air that resembles all of our favorites but one which is based upon athletic, driven teens. It excites me immensely.

And on that note... I'm gonna watch a few of my guilty pleasures before bed.

Kinda a crazy first blog, but hang in there and check back for some updates.

I'll try to make it more often than not... depending on how much I have to say ; )
